An introductory program for adults of all genders.
It's better to self-defense and not need it, than to need it and not know it. AMA Combatives is an entry-level beginner mixed martial arts program dedicated to teaching the 85 most important self-defense techniques. Classes are conducted in a safe, structured learning environment, so that anyone can learn regardless of age or physical ability.
Once you complete each of the AMA Combatives lessons twice, you will qualify to participate in the Reflex Development (RD) Classes where you will learn how to combine the techniques to address the most common occurrences in a real fight.
Once you complete each of the AMA Combatives lessons three times, and you’ve completed at least 12 Reflex Development Classes, you are eligible to test for your AMA Combatives belt! We will administer a 25-minute test to assess your ability to execute the essential techniques individually and in combination.
After the student develops their muscle memory in the execution of these core techniques and graduates from the AMA Combatives program, they move on to the AMA Master Combatives program.
Master Combatives
Beyond AMA Combatives belt, mixed martial arts consist of hundreds of advanced techniques organized into a 1 year clearly defined, systematic curriculum called AMA Master Combatives. The Master Combatives’ unique structure simplifies the journey to blue belt by organizing all MMA techniques into positional chapters (e.g., Mount, Guard, Kicks, Blocks, Chokes, etc) each of which is studied for several months before moving on to the next chapter.
If you’ve achieved the rank of AMA Combatives belt, and you would like to continue on the path to AMA black belt in a safe, structured, and friendly learning environment, then Master Combatives is for you!
The Process
Part 1: Master The Techniques
The course is divided into 23 lessons, with each lesson covering 2 techniques. It starts from basic techniques and then gradually moves to advanced ones, so you don’t feel overwhelmed or confused.
Upon registering, you will be provided with an AMA attendance card, which will be used to record every step of your progress.
Part 2: Improve Your Reflexes
As soon as you complete the Iron Women lessons one time, you can enroll in the Reflex Development (RD) workshops during which you will learn how to integrate the 20 techniques to protect yourself in a real self-defense scenario.
Step 3: Earn Your Certification
Upon the successful completion of the Combatives program, you will be awarded a certificate and can proceed to our Master Cycle program. The program requires no prior experience; we welcome people with all experience levels.
